News on the Deadpool movie front may have been slow since it was announced back in September, but today we’re getting confirmation that Ryan Reynolds has officially assigned on to reprise his role as the Merc with a Mouth. Though we pretty much assumed it was going to happen, Deadline reports that Reynolds is finalizing his deal to play Deadpool, aka Wade Wilson, in the 2016 X-Men spinoff. Reynolds has been attached to the film for several years during its development and provided the voice for the proof of concept test footage that was previously shot and then leaked this year around Comic Con. It was the overwhelmingly positive response from that footage that reportedly lead Fox to greenlight the film. Though most Deadpool fans weren’t happy with how the character was handled in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, most were happy with Reynold’s portrayal of Wilson despite what he was given to work with. Production on Deadpool is expected to begin in March for a planned February 12th, 2016 release. Tim Miller, most known for creating the title sequence for 2011’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is set to direct.
