Feeling nostalgic as heck with a pair of entries in what I can now begin to call KingdomLikes XD

Thronefall feels so much like an RTS cross between Kingdom New Lands' economy system, and Kingdom Rush's tower defense and combat system, complete with character control and at least one hero unit. Mechanically it's solid, and the challenges added into each level giving you an opportunity to retry prior misisons with difficulty modifiers and rewarding the player with new unlockables.

It's self described as a minimalist game where they've attempted to bring good mechanics from the genre while stripping away excess fluff and I'd have to say this is a solid execution on that premise. The development team as of the middle of this year consisted of two people, and as such there are no plans to make the game have any kind of multiplayer functionality due to time constraints, which I would say I'm spoiled by what K2C has taught me about the genre.

After making it through a good portion of the base campaign I switch gears to play through Kingdom Eighties, the latest entry in the Kingdom Series. This game is a love letter to the eighties' memorabilia and contains a lot of text and visual references that make me giggle. The synthwave music is great and feels correct for the story, and as you progress through the campaign you start to hear notes of the original games' soundfonts being used throughout, giving an amazing blend and tie-in to the prior entries. To be honest, I'm hoping that with the success of this game's launch I want there to be another entry that considers futuretech or scifi themes while still managing to tie in the story, now that we have a story!

This is also the first Kingdom game with lore beyond a ghost telling you "go here", complete with cute animatics and a cast of characters that delightfully work together to save the world from the Greed. I'm looking forward to playing through the challenge maps on this, it's got a fun set of changes to the build order and combat mechanics that make it a refreshing update to come back to.
