"Soken's Edge", arrangement of "Saber's Edge" (ブレイズエッジ) from Final Fantasy XIII in the style of Final Fantasy XVI soundtrack.
Composed by Masashi Hamauzu, arranged by Sipi Ovaska, in the style of Masayoshi Soken.
One of my favourite FF tracks ever, this is probably the 5th time I arrange this one from start to finish. I wanted to go over the top with the orchestra and choir similar to some of the more energetic boss themes in FF16.
The composition is nearly identical to the original, as all alterations to Hamauzu's airy and otherworldly chords and voicings ended up sounding worse than I wanted. I ended up mostly changing rythms and adding embellishments such as choirs and harp parts.
To the two "chorus" parts of this track I ended up changing from the long, drawn out chords to more rythmic and pulsating hammering of the orchestra, as a homage to Soken's work on tracks like "No Risk, No Reward". All in all, this track is still 95% Hamauzu, with bits of my interpretation of Soken's mad genius sprinkled here and there.
