...Praise for Safejas debut EP ‘Silk’

Berlin-based British producer Safejas follows up on his debut EP ‘Silk’ (WOE) – a release that explored an organic/inorganic duality – with an introspective-techno remix from German-born, Brightonian Caldera.

Safejas’ ‘Silk’ stepped fluidly between ambience and club-friendly experiments, while intimately preoccupied with exploring the spacious quality of sound.

Hailed as one of DJ Mag’s and Bandcamp Daily’s recommended releases, garnering radio support from Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), Rinse FM, Balamii, KEXP and premieres with Music Is My Sanctuary, Les Yeux Orange and Loose Lips, ‘Silk’ was an assured introduction to the Safejas project, making his mark on the electronic scene.

“Kan” is a track which immerses us in a crowd of disembodied human and electronic voices, abstract and multitudinal; Caldera's remix catapults Safejas’ tune into a dancefloor orientated sphere whilst keeping true to the original tone and atmosphere. In the words of Caldera:

"I really loved the pads and didn't want to change them at all which is why I ended up creating a driving and more dancefloor orientated version of 'Kan'. Since we are good friends, doing the remix for Safejas was a no brainer and using and manipulating his original sounds was a big joy for me. The end result made me have flashbacks of some good nights we've had when we still lived in the same city and before the pandemic."

Lewis Shields aka Safejas is a Berlin-based producer working in the fractured seams of electronic music. Before he donned the Safejas moniker, Shields played bass and added electronics to various bands such as Good Guy Clarence in Brighton, and co-founded the live film scoring and audiovisual event Luma on the South coast. A resident on community radio station Threads, Safejas studied Music & Sonic Arts at the University of Sussex (alongside producer qgb) and has worked on collaborative interactive sound installations with experimental fashion brand Hieronymus.
