Setting up the Galaxy S8/S8 Plus
First things to do on the Galaxy S8
1. Setting up multiple locks
2. Smart lock
3. Always on display customization and AODs
4. Do Not disturb
5. Blue light filter customization
6. Edge panel customization – no. of edge panels, downloadable and appearance customization
7. Setup reminder (edge panel)
8. Customize homescreen – widgets, wallpaper and turn off bixby
The Galaxy S8 comes with various unlock mechanisms and that is pretty awesome because being spoilt for choice can never be a bad thing. From simple swipe to unlock to secure pin and pattern styles to ultra high secure biometric unlocks like iris scan and fingerprint scan – the S8 leaves nothing in the market.
The other thing you should definitely do is set up smart lock. This way, your phone automatically identifies when you are in a secure place, like your home, and automatically disables secure unlocks for faster unlocking
The always on display is actually quite customizable. In addition to choosing on to what information you’d like on your phone from a selective menu of choices like calendar, edge panel, date and time – you could also go into these and customize them further with whatever you like. From various clock styles, to colors, to layouts – you can keep changing them everyday.
A few people know that you can customize this even further. Go into Galaxy Apps and go into AODs – which is Always on display and here you have this whole library of custom built always on display designs that you could download and install.
With DND (Do Not Disturb) mode you can automatically set up when your phone should go into silent mode but even more importantly you can go ahead and create exceptions for a few people that are important and you’d want them to be able to reach you at any time – let’s say for e.g. for emergencies. And to convert a contact into a favourite contact – just go on to the contact and tap the star icon.
Samsung has gone ahead and introduced a ‘Blue light’ filter that reduces the blue light being emitted from the screen, reduces the strain on your eye significantly and also let’s you schedule when it should turn on and turn off. I’d highly recommend that you do this and trust me you’d notice the difference in a dark room when you are on your phone and your eye is not as stressed as it would be with regular lighting.
