Samurai Shodown/Showdown II/Shin Samurai Spirits Gen-an Arcade Mode Part 1
Haruo Yaguchi's favorite samsho character.
Gen-an's go to buttons:
Standing and crouching light slash which has an unusually long range for a quick light attack.
Standing and crouching medium slash. It has an even longer range than light slash while not being easy to punish.
Far standing heavy slash for punishing. Has a slow startup.
Close heavy slash and crouching heavy slash. Close heavy slash is cancellable into many of his specials or his super. Crouching heavy slash hits twice and can be cancelled on both hits, but its preferable to cancel on the 1st because after the 2nd hit, the enemy is already quite far away. Crouching heavy slash is also a wonderful anti air btw.
Crouching light and medium kicks. Really quick sliding knee attacks that can be spammed against both cpu and players. Has almost no recovery lol.
Jumping light and medium slashes. Both are really good air to air normals and can also be used as a jump ins.
Jumping Heavy slash, which has great reach and fast startup. Very easy to use as a jump in attack and is also good for air to air.
Jumping medium kick is best used as a jump in. It doesn't push the enemy too far back allowing you to start a combo.
His special moves:
Poison Breath (qcf + any slash). Has a really large hit box. Light slash dissolves after 2 character cells but travels the slowest. Medium slash dissolves after 3(or maybe 4) character cells and travels moderately slow. Heavy slash travels the fastest and farthest.
Rolling Slash attack (dp + slash). His signature move in which he travels horizontally towards the enemy, then he goes up vertically and finally backing away diagonally. A very hard to punish move depending on character matchup and deals great chip damage. Light slash travels the least both horizontally and vertically while Heavy slash travels the most, both horizontally and vertically.
Rainbow Rolling Slash attack (Light Kick+Medium Slash+MediumKick when hit). You can only do this when you're hit with attacks that don't knock you down. Gen-an sheds his skin then attacks with his rolling slash in a rainbow trajectory. He bounces back far away after hitting you which can be hard to punish for some characters. I never used it in this video sadly.
Claw Grapple attack (hcb+slash). Gen-an's "get over here move" that dissolves projectiles in its way. Has a long recovery when it misses or is blocked. Note that it cannot be used as an infinite versus players since you can actually get out of the dizzy animation by wiggling your fight stick and mashing your buttons. It can be used as a fake infinite versus the cpu though, but not easy to do since there's quite a distance between you and your dizzied cpu enemy. You have to walk up quite a bit.
His super move (hcb, forward+Light slash and Medium slash) has him running towards the enemy, grabs them down and does a full body drill animation against said downed enemy. This is not an unblockable btw. When blocked, he is open to a punish.
