Operation Tango from Clever Plays is a fun way to spend time with a friend that likes the idea of spy movies (Mission / Bond), and likes to help solve puzzles.

This is an asymmetric first person perspective game where you and a friend take on 2 different supporting characters, the Agent and the Hacker. Each will have different tasks to perform to help each other get to the goal of each mission. Both viewpoints are different, and you need to communicate to each other what you see, found, and have figured out.

Maybe the Agent cannot enter the main building, and then the Hacker, who is going through employee files, download a profile to the Agent allowing her to continue. Next the Agent my guide the Hacker through rooms that keep shift ordination in order to break into the mainframe. Later the agent needs to spot repair a train's coolant system, and the Hacker walks here through it, all while the train is speeding to assured destruction!

Operation Tango has an appropriate soundtrack that evokes 70's to 90's spy thrillers. To be honest, it is one of the first games that I did not immediately turn down the music and effects volume. Not just because the music sounds good, but it also doe snot have an annoyingly high initial setting like most multiplayer games theses days seem to have. I want to be able to hear my partner during this, it is important!

The almost cell shaded look works well with the over all motif, and the details are many and appreciated. Each area I have been in is like a crafted animated special. This world has been enjoyable to spend many hours in while tracking down the next objective.

The one item I am not sure on is the replicability of the missions. You can go back and replay any mission and switch which role you played. This is great for seeing the other perspective, especially on that tough puzzle that took both of you a while to solve. While there are aspects of each mission that change randomly, like access codes or passwords, the general flow and solution of the mission remains unchanged.
One mission did have "locked" areas that I saw when I was the Hacker. I am hoping that these areas unlock later in the game allowing us to go back to a mission and solve it in a whole new way. Think going through the air vents to access the mainframe room, instead of dodging drones on a sweep pattern. If these do not unlock later and are just there for flavor, then it will be the only slight negative that I can think of for this game.

With that said, Operation Tango is a fantastic value at $19.99 on most stores and as a pleasant surprise only one person in a play group needs to buy it! The developer Clever Plays provides a "Friend Pack" that your friends can download and use to connect to your game!

DayDrinker and I have spent, and will continue to spend, many enjoyable hours playing this game!
I highly recommend it if you like co-op, puzzles, Spy thrillers, or any combination of the above!
