Saturday Night Slam Masters - Arcade Team Battle Royale Gameplay
Released: 1993
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Muscle Bomber :The Body Explosion (Japanese name)
Capcom's take on the world of wrestling was one of the best pro wrestling games ever to grace arcades. Featuring a cast of characters from the world of Final Fight and Street Fighter, it was always going to be a hit. Here's a gameplay video of the opening intro and the first few matches in tag team mode with Randomised Gaming playing as Mike Hagger. See if you can spot the background cameo in the crowd of Chun-Li from Street Fighter II.
Capcom tweaked and updated the arcade version re-releasing it the same year under the name of Muscle Bomber Duo. This tweaked version removed one on one matches and changed out the pin button in favour of a grapple button.
The artwork for the game's characters was done by Tetsuo Hara of "Fist of the North Star" fame.
While the arcade version has never been re-released, the SNES version is very close to the arcade version. Licensing issues maybe prevented the re-release of the both the original game and it's sequel.
Capcom made some truly bizarre changes to gameplay for the sequel Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II, turning it into a disappointing one on one fighting game. As a result the sequel doesn't have much of a following and killed off the series.
