Sci-Fi Convention CANCELLED - Guests Called "Freaks" By Venue?
Chi-Fi Con 2014 is now cancelled because according to its chairman, a top manager at the hotel venue hosting it harassed staff, attendees, and guests, calling them "costumed freaks." The con was set for March 27-30th in the River North Westin Hotel in Chicago. Chi-Fi Con chairman James Dobbs posted on the con's facebook page that organizers were concerned that the hotel staff would not be able to create a welcoming and accepting atmosphere. Hotel officials say this was not the case.
Who do you believe, and do you think people handled the incident correctly? If a hotel employee did call guests/attendees/staff of the con "freaks," is it justifiable to cancel? Is the problem of harassment at cons still at high levels, and is it fair? Kim Horcher and Tim Frisch discuss.
