Our perception of Ceres, a dwarf planet and the largest body in the asteroid belt, has been hazy for a long time, according to Scott King, a geoscientist at the Virginia Tech College of Science.
Ceres is located near the junction of Jupiter and Mars where hundreds of thousands of asteroids are scattered.

The hazy orb that was Ceres became visible in 2015.
For scientists like King, the sight was spectacular.
The NASA Dawn mission's data and images provided a better view of the surface, including its composition and structures, uncovering unanticipated geologic activity.
