Scrub Chronicles: Mega Man X - Power Up Clean Up
Before I get owned by the rest of Sigma's stages, let's go back and see if we can't get some of those taunting power-ups. It has been brought to my attention that I have missed THREE Heart Tanks, but I'll mention them in a bit. Also, it appears some stages change pretty drastically, and from what I hear, this has to do with what bosses you face.
Starting off in Chill Penguin's stage, it seems fire melts those enemy-spawning igloos, and a Heart Tank is mine!
After you take out Chill Penguin, the lava in Flame Mammoth's stage freezes up, I guess...and this lets me get that Heart Tank that taunted me so long ago! Then, taking a chance, I took a leap of faith and jumped, finding an E-Tank hidden behind a wall! Using video game logic, I determined that the Boomerang Cutter could retrieve it for me and...I was right! Now, it turns out that there's an optional way to get the Buster Upgrade Zero normally gives you in this stage. Right before that Heart Tank, and thus the E-Tank, you might spot some suspicious blocks on the ceiling. Headbutt time! Sadly, I missed it, so I miss out on the alternate scene that plays later, where Zero bites it less ambiguously. OH WELL.
A VERY quick jump to the tower stage, and I use Boomer's own weapon to retrieve that Heart Tank.
And then, Spark Mandrill's stage sees a little change too! After defeating Storm Eagle, it seems his airship crashes into Mandrill's stage, which disrupts the power there. Seems to cause rolling blackouts! Uh, neat? At least it gets rid of those annoying spark enemies. It....takes me a while to get it down, but I finally use the Boomerang Cutter to grab that E-Tank! Boom! Later into the stage, you might remember that Heart Tank I couldn't quite get my firs time around. You either need to do a very well-timed and positioned dashing wall jump (a mechanic I was generally ignorant of until now) to get in there to get it...or spam Boomerang Cutters until you get one with the right trajectory to get it. Too bad I forgot about it!
Now, the other stages I didn't show here (Barring Launch Octopus's stage) happen to have at least ONE thing I missed. Once you beat Launch Octopus, portions of Sting Chameleon's stage flood. Namely, if you go down that pit below that miniboss where you get the Armor, you'll find water that will give you just BARELY enough air time to reach a Heart Tank in an otherwise uncrossable pit.
In Storm Eagle's stage, if you make a huge leap of faith from the very top of the first portion of the stage, back to the starting point (the structure behind you anyway), you'll find another Heart Tank.
Lastly, I THOUGHT I got everything in the underground stage....but there exists one last special unlockable obtainable after getting everything else...Ryu's own Hadoken! Remember that last jump with the minecart before the boss? Jump at the right time to reach the top of the cliff and you'll usually find some energy. However, once you get everything and visit the cliffside three times (either dying to reset and do the stage over again, OR...backtracking) you'll find a final Dr. Light Capsule where he'll give it to you.
You perform the Hadoken just like in Street Fighter. Down, Down-Forward, Forward, or the quarter-circle motion and the mighty fireball is yours! Its a one-hit-KO for most anything, barring minibosses and the final boss (and Armored Armadillo can deflect it with his armor!). I don't need no damn Hadoken though! So what I have now will suffice for what lies ahead...
Since this is so short, expect one more video today tackling the next Sigma Stage! Let's hope these health upgrades and E-Tanks help!
