Scrub Chronicles: MH3U - Vs. Arzuros (My Lord's Errand)
Well now! Looks like our little nameless hunter has gotten an upgrade! Alloy armor gives us a bit more defense, and some interesting skills! I ought to mention those, huh? Basically, different pieces of armor grant skills, but you need to be over a given threashold of "points" to get a given skill. Generally, if you have a full set of armor, it's easier to get to that threshold. Of those, Speed Sharpening is VERY useful. Sharpening my weapons won't take but a moment now! That uh...gets me out of some jams later on. But you'll see that next video!
We also have a fancy Buster Sword, which is what you get if you upgrade the starting Great Sword a few times. Look at me! I'm like Cloud! Or Zabuza! Just what IS that weird notch on the blade for? Great Swords are big and strong...but leave you WAY open. If you really want to get the big damage in, you need to charge up your swings! You can ALSO guard with this weapon, but CAN'T use items without putting that big thing away. Also, you might notice that you gain some "super armor" of sorts on some attacks with this, and you move...quite slow. Thus, a good tactic for the Great Sword is to attack, quickly "sheath" your sword, then pull it out again at the right moment!
Also time to address the elephant in the room...this Scrub Chronicles isn't exactly a blind run, now is it? Well, due to the nature of Monster Hunter, you have to fight the monsters again and again to get item drops and whatnot...and while it's not so apparent yet, if you're unprepared and thus going in blind...fights aren't super fun. They can take long, and be wrought with failure, and I find that does NOT make for a good viewing experience overall. This isn't a simple side-scrolling platformer where I can splice in all the failed deaths real quick. The fights in Monster Hunter are much longer bouts, and editing out too much robs you of the ORDEAL that a given fight is. There is also the fact that the beginning of the game is rather slow going, and I'd already gone through it TWICE now, and I'd rather not again. So please do bear with me...
Heh, speaking of BEAR....here's our next target, Winnie the Pooh! Arzuros is a BIT of a step up compared to Great Jaggi, having some tougher bits of armor that WILL cause weapons to bounce off if they lack the sharpness required. More often, it'll be the armor on it's claws. This thing has gauntlets for God's sake! Even if it is goofy-looking, honey-loving bear, it gets awesome points for that!
I get batted around a bit more than I'd like early on, mostly due to still being kinda new to the Great Sword in general. I'm not used to a lack of mobility! But really, you only need to get a few hits in with the sword to make a difference. Before long, Pooh Bear here starts running, chowing down on some honey...how careless to show it's back to it's opponent!
Arzuros is still considered a beginner-friendly monster, I think...but uh...I can't say the same for our next target...I'm dreading just uploading the thing! See you for that!
