10 years ago this month, the first Scruffy game, The Search for Tikiman, was finished. I followed it up with two sequels: Scruffy's Quest in January of 2007, and Scruffy 3 in June of 2008. There was also a spinoff, Scruffy Rides Again in October of 2007, which as you know is a top down shooter/platformer hybrid.

Currently the fourth (fifth if you count SRA) game in the series, SQGT, is being made and is already twenty million times better, because the original Scruffy trilogy...isn't good.

Because we have now reached the 10th Anniversary of Scruffy's games and I have become increasingly disappointed with my older games (to be fair, I had just started Middle School), I've decided to give them the remastering they've desperately needed, and this will be my project for the rest of the year.

Here's the changelist from the original games:

1. They have been combined into one continuous game. Some levels and bosses that were repeated across all three games now only appear once, unless they were substantially different between games, in which case the repeat is allowed to stay. This also means the mechanics are consistent across all three games.

2. Better graphics, which as you can see here are still very early and quite a few still need to be replaced. The weird pseudo-3D style is gone and the game now uses the art style of SQGT. Most of Scruffy's animations aren't implemented yet but he has many fluidly animated ones.

3. Most importantly, the gameplay is now like the gameplay in SQGT. This is a good thing, because the original games had very bad gameplay.
In SQGT, you pick two moves for your character, and go through a stage with them. One is mapped to the X Key, and one is mapped to the C Key. These custom moves are wildly different meaning you can create your own playstyle and have fun with it. The same applies to Scruffy DX.

Again, this is all very early, but it's progressing very nicely. As I tweak the game(s) more they'll look and play MUCH better, and they're already much more fun than they used to be.
