The Arena is getting an Overhaul, so I thought I'd make a video highlighting the changes, doing some speculation and stating my opinions on the matter.

(The script for people who prefer reading to listening:
Hi, I'm Fail. And today I'm going to be talking about the Sea of Thieves Arena overhaul.

We'll start with what is actually changing:

The treasure maps are going to be replaced by one Seadog's chest indicated by a purple reaper's chest beacon, leading to a more frantic and hectic challenge to get a chest due to the fact that,
well,
everyone will get funneled towards one island, there'll be a higher silver reward for successful acts of PVP, Players will have a short window to revive fallen crew members , that last one's also coming to adventure mode and the maps are going to be smaller.

Now, if you succeed and manage to dig up or steal the chest, and somehow avoid the entire server to get it on to the boat, it gets even more stressful as there will only be one cash-in point and at least one other boat will probably be after you.

Once you've cashed in the chest the whole thing begins again, but those who didn't follow you will have a head start.

And to make something that sounds great even better, the game time's been changed from 24 minutes to an ideal 15 minutes.

I'm speculating here, but there's a chance Gunpowder barrels are coming to the Arena. But the only thing I've got to go on is the description of the arena as Explosive in an update video.

However if you are interested in my opinions, here you go:

First: My biggest problem with the Arena was the 24 minute game time. Especially the sloop matches should always have been 15 minutes, the 15 minute time limit will definitely condense the action. Rare have said that they want the game to be great for streaming and more action will definitely make the viewing experience better.

Secondly: We'll see what the response to only having one chest will be like, personally, I would prefer 3 chests on one island, so the action is slightly less condensed. I honestly think it might get too hectic.

One cash in point will make tactical game play more worthwhile and selling chests will be stupidly nerve-racking. In a good way.

Higher rewards for PVP will help with a much needed re-balance of the scoring system.

Finally, this update is scheduled to come out on the 22.April, which isn't too far away.
