Sega Genesis Herzog Zwei G1, the complete demo! All 8 maps in single & in splitscreen!
I bring you the first splitscreen game I played: Herzog Zwei, which is to my knowledge, the only Sega Genesis title that had it! Vid timeline:
An important entry in the video game culture, Herzog Zwei is one of the earliest examples of a Real Time Strategy (RTS) game. One's final objective is to destroy the enemy's main base.

The maps:
(0:00) Abgrund (canyon):
Characterized by having two levels, the lower divided by a river to futher make things interesting.
Units can fall and become stuck, although Infantry units can climb here.
Also, players start with no captured bases instead of the usual 3.
(2:27) Vulkan (volcano):
Thin lava strips promise a quick death to anyone who comes in contact, while rivers divide the map into three sectors.
(4:39) Loch (cave):
The maze environment create choke points and block direct attacks to most bases. Get ready for the grind!
(6:50) Strand (island):
Boats are one's best friend in this island hopping map. But be on the lookout for enemy units dropping at your doorstep too!
(9:01) Stadt (city):
The opposite of Loch. Open centre range areas provide room for epic Tank battles. Buildings occupy the perimeter.
(11:12) Eisfrei (artic):
Slippery grades and snow can make it difficult for units to maintain their bearings in this diverse map also featuring a gulf with islands.
(13:25) Waldung (jungle):
Forest areas are completely impassable by ground units. There's a thick, muddy lake at the center that can slow any unit to a crawl!
(15:37) Oase (oasis):
It's combined arms warfare in the desert! Large trees and sand slow down ground units. But if one time things right, both can arrive together!
The units:
Each unit serves a purpose. Just remember, you have to worry about health, ammo and fuel! Orders: Sentry, Intercept, Patrol, Secure Sub-Base, Capture Sub-Base, Attack Main Base, Supply.
The Mech Commander (you!):
Versatile unit that can transform from a combat mech to a fighter jet/transport.
Strongest armor and weapon with plenty of ammo and medium range. Can service units when atop a base. Best of all, he's free, with no cost incurred apon destruction/respawn!
On the flip side, he uses a lot of energy when flying, especially when loaded, and his weapon has no effect on the enemy's main base.
But his biggest flaw is that when in mech form, he's large enough for anti-aircraft to still be able to aquire a lock on him!
The Infantry:
A mandatory unit, given 4 of these are required to enter a sub-base for capture. They are heavily armed for their size. A single Infantry unit can cause a surprise amount of damage.
They're the slowest, but have the mayor advantage of not requiring fuel and can climb the canyons of Abgrund.
The Motorcycle:
Given it's tiny fuel tank and minimal abilities, they best used as decoys. A squad of these advancing in front of Tanks, can have the potential of distracting enemy defenses before hand.
The Armored Car:
Fast and effective on the attack, but with slightly more armor than a Motorcycle. They can lay a helping hand to friendly Tanks.
The Tank:
Frontline assault combat unit with more armor than the Stationary Turret. The bread and butter unit once the game picks up, useful in most situations.
The Mobile Missile Launcher:
This anti-Commander only unit can target lock him regardless of whether he's in Mech or Jet form. Longest ranged weapon and hits the hardest too. But it's low stock of missiles means a Supply Truck should be close by.
The Stationary Turret:
By far, the most expensive unit in the game. Beware, it does have less armor than a Tank. So placing a Tank of two on Sentry to shield it from damage is wise.
Otherwise, it is the most heavily armed unit, with a larger stock of smaller of missiles and twin-linked long range guns useful for shore defense as well.
The Boat:
The Boat does carries the longest range gun somewhat better as a shore bombardier than in ship-to-ship combat, given that it can fire from out of reach locations.
The Supply Truck:
The Mech Commander's helping hand, the Supply Truck can rearm and refuel, but not repair.
Best used to resupply missile units.
