Similar to Daytona USA, Sega Rally 2 has an extended length mode that can be enabled from the operator's menu to challenge drivers with a test of endurance. Instead of completing a single lap around each stage, the extended mode has drivers completing 3 laps on each stage (and 5 on the final Riviera stage.)
Passing cars is not the main issue here; time is your enemy. You will have plenty of time to pass the computer drivers in each stage since the drivers do not drive faster and the stage itself lasts three times longer than it would normally. Listen carefully to the navigator's calls and memorize how each turn flows on your first lap, then work to perfect your line on the last two laps. Keep your lap times fast and do not hesitate or make costly mistakes, or you might find yourself running out of time after 10 minutes of work.
The Ford Escort drives very differently than the other cars in Sega Rally 2. It has more grip on pavement than any other car and suddenly snaps between gripping and sliding. You will have to turn the wheel hard to get the Escort to go in the direction you want, so do not be afraid to use the brake to encourage a slide if the car is not responding. Good luck!
