He goes over contexts in which it serves a purpose other than to just pad gameplay and force more common resource gathering, and how in games where it is a central mechanic, how to take emphasis off of mass production of resources to keep you in tools and gear, and to turn crafting into a reward while reinforcing the exploration game loop.
