Set (SMITE) - Character Development
90There's a fun story behind this one, as it was supposed to be a side project that I was originally planning to work on while chipping away at a larger video, yet it ended up being completed first. Not only that, but a hurricane swept through here during production, leaving me without power and water for a few days. I'll take that as a sign that Set wanted to make sure I was mentioning his good side.
Today's episode was suggested by DnPrime17, an active member in the channel's Discord server who's wanted me to return to SMITE for a fair while. Set was one of the many gods he's mentioned, and I'm so glad he pointed that out, as Set is one of the most perplexing and fascinating gods of Ancient Egypt; he has a rather complicated history and image, which popular culture and historians have both struggled to understand, so I'm very curious to see how SMITE tackles the "Set question," as I call it.
By the way, here's some bonus trivia: although I'm using the term "pharaoh" to refer to any and all rulers of Ancient Egypt before the Greek conquest, the title was first used by Merneptah, son of Ramses the Great. Before that, "pharaoh" referred to the palace, not the ruler.
