Rise of the Tomb Raider foi bem recebido pela critica e pelo público. De acordo com o site Metacritic o jogo teve "análises geralmente favoráveis". Foram elogiados vários aspectos como os gráficos e a história e algumas das melhorias feitas em relação ao seu antecessor. Apesar da espera de um ano pelos donos de Playstation o tempo valeu a pena já que o Game correspondeu as expectativas.
