In-between the off-the-shelf Unity rally projects, and mini game experiments on itch.io, you sometimes find a real gem. Shakedown Rally by nothke is available from https://nothke.itch.io/shakedown and is constantly under development.
The game uses a limited palette, low-colour, pixelated rendering engine, to look something like a PlayStation 1 game, with some juicy sound effects.
Currently it lacks much (apart from the ability to record a time on the 4 tracks (at time of making this video, though more are on the way).
Features missing include a co-driver, a handbrake, a user-friendly way to set the keys (you need to refer to a website for key mapping, though an Xbox controller will work for the basics), and more... but it plays excellently well, given it's limited content!
The developer is often on Twitch, showing how they program the game, so it's almost a mini-learning project too! I'd definitely recommend following this one, or trying the demo at least!
