As Rings of Power continues to unearth the lesser-known history of the forces of evil and those of light, fans are surely marveling at the way Tolkien crafted his characters. Titular evil forces like Sauron, Morgoth, or even the orcs have certainly been a fascinating subject, but did you know some creatures in the story can rival these harbingers of darkness in their ways? Tolkien explains these creatures in great detail, and we see one of them come to life in Peter Jackson’s early works. More recently, we have seen a glimpse of this monstrous evil in Rings of Power itself, when it clashes with Isildur. Despite the rather short screen time, the show has in part confirmed that this creature is none other than the one that Samwise Gamgee had faced many years later, on his way to accompanying Frodo Baggins to destroy the One Ring.
