So, I really liked this at first. Still do like it a lot. Very nice presentation. Great visuals, menus, music, etc.

There are a few problems. First is the difficulty. Now, I realize I picked Hard. While that's true, I don't like being one or two shot so often. That's bullshit, not really a legitimate challenge. Not just that, but the moment I stepped out of the house was bombarded with this bird out of nowhere that takes over half my life. Like, this stands out a lot because the demo was overall so well polished that this negative sticks out. If the visuals were much worse, poor controls, mediocre music, bland menus, etc. then it would fit. But the high quality of most everything else highlights this issue.

Second, the impact of hitting enemies is quite poor. It doesn't feel satisfying to hit enemies and that is a problem.

Third, water feels not much different than running around on land. I mean, I'm glad it's not slow the way water usually is in games but if it feels identical to ground movement I feel like it kinda defeats the purpose.

Also this might have to do with the difficulty, but the speed at which some of the enemies move is oddly fast. Like, it looks unnatural. Talking about the mushroom boss when it moves faster and the wizard enemy.

Oh yeah also the combat feels like kinda mashy. It's because you can attack so fast and bounce off enemies so it's like move towards the enemies while hitting attack repeatedly, yeah.

Anyway, some things that stood out. First, it is nice to have a game where you run at full speed when tilting the analog stick all the way. Like, seriously. We have analog sticks. Did everyone forget what Mario 64 did? We shouldn't even be having run buttons in games with analog stick movement. If that's too hard for people to control at least have the option to run with analog stick full tilt in the options. Next, it's nice to have an otter main character. That's a first. The movement in general is nice.

But anyway yeah looking forward to this one a lot I just mainly hope that the dumb way the higher difficulties are handled is ironed out. Might try the highest difficulty later to see how it is. What are they gonna do, kill me in one hit off everything?
