Ship of Fools released right before the holiday season of 2022 on November 22nd. Its premise features one or two sailors navigating their way across a hazardous sea in the midst of the Everlasting Storm, fueled by a darkness from beyond. Players defend their ship, the almighty Stormstrider, with cannon and paddle warfare. Along the way, they'll stop at various islands to discover new treasures to assist them with their journey, carrying only what they can atop the ship's limited pedestal spots.

This game exemplifies many unique mechanics as well as an excellent world, however it doesn't exactly stick the landing. While it doesn't completely land flat on its face, it stumbles and eventually trips over. This is attributed to its immensely easy enemy design, core lack of item balancing, and extreme generosity of originally limited resources, all outlined here.

Overall, I do not regret playing Ship of Fools, however it is far from what I initially anticipated. As expressed, it works better for those who want an easy roguelite or co-op adventure to enjoy than hardcore roguelite enjoyers. Until the issues described here are resolved, I can't recommend the game for the latter category.

Please understand that this video was originally designed before the 1.0.2 patch, Ship of Fools' first small balance update.
