All In Only Nothings (Max Difficulty - No Suited Cards) | Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers
Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers is a deckbuilder roguelite based on blackjack, modifying the game through special cards and suit abilities. On a winning blackjack, hearts heal, spades give shields, diamonds give chips, and clubs deal double damage. Balancing these abilities in deck management is essential to success, with certain decks even capitalizing on them. But what if we did away with all that, using a deck with the "nothings" suit and never taking any suited cards? And what if we did it on the max difficulty, which adds detrimental cards and improves foes decks, among other threats?
Another difficult part about this challenge briefly worth mentioning is the lack of access to negative cards. These only spawn when the deck has suited number cards in it, and there are no ordinary negative nothings. Negatives are valuable for effectively increasing the number of cards you can play per hand. They also let you stall until your opponent stands first, letting you manipulate their cards more easily. As such, not having access to them makes the deck harder to manage and decreases manipulation potential.
The full rules for this challenge are that any cards that are suited or immediately play suited cards are banned. This means cards like 4 mana 7/7, which is a 2 of nothings, is banned due to spawning suited cards. This rule also loosely applies to tarot cards, where suitless tarots are preferred when possible. This rule is mostly RNG, though, and could be dropped if it's too much of a grind. Minor arcana 5s added through the Triple Down difficulty modifier do not count for this run, including their blackjack effects. That's because it's unrealistic to consistently remove them every encounter on every single attempt. That being said, it is not allowed to build the deck around procing their effects. Using other decks that also have only nothings is also not anticipated since those typically have gimmicks that can offset the challenge.
This was my first win out of 44 attempts, with around a third being quick resets in the first area. I learned a lot about deck management and card synergies throughout the process. It's actually amazing how powerful some of the nothing suited cards are, like yellow card or trump card. There are still some I'm yet to use to their full potential too, like bounce card. I didn't play perfectly well either, so there's definitely still room for improvement.
