0A little something different this time. This stream is Part 3 of preparing a challenge run for an upcoming charity stream. The rough idea is this: the Arby's Challenge requires Astrid to harvest as much meat as possible in the course of one stream without eating any of it (since it is the property of the Arby's Corporation). I made a few tweaks to the settings used in a previous attempt, setting all animals spawns (even fish) to Very High and aurora frequency to maximum.
This is the third and final prepisode before our Stack Up charity stream on May 25. We have almost everything we need: rifle, revolver, bow, and ammo aplenty. A couple items still elude us, though, and this stream is devoted to fixing that. We start with a first for me -- crafting a travois for the first time (16:00). It's a big investment in maple saplings but will be invaluable in hauling meat during the Arby's challenge. After that comes an extended arrow-making session so Astrid is fully kitted out for the upcoming slaughterfest. We have to stop early, though, as our supply of crow feathers is insufficient. Having done all we can for now in Coastal Highway, the party packs up and traverses the coal mine to search Pleasant Valley for a flare gun.
Thompson's Crossing, the big barn, and Molly's farmhouse all fail to provide the flare gun we seek. Signal Hill, however, does not disappoint (1:53:45). Flare gun and clothing upgrades in hand, Astrid falls back to the Bingo Hall for another research montage to power through archery, carcass harvesting, and rifle skill books. The latter are copies of Advanced Guns, Guns, Guns, so this takes a while. After 65 hours of research (and breaks for sleep and snacks), it's time for Astrid to return to the Quonset and make final preparations for her tenure as an Arby's subcontractor. By the end of proceedings, we have more than 50 rifle rounds, almost 200 revolver rounds, about three dozen arrows, and a dozen flare shells. Plus, pure research has Astrid at Rifle skill level 4, Archery and Revolver 3, and Carcass Harvesting 2. Other than raiding HRV for a moosehide satchel, I think we're pretty well set.
