Shotos and Swords - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
We're back! Time for more of a devilish good time! BTW, peep YuuGiJoou on either YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/user/YuuGiJoou ) or Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/yuugijoou). She streams a fair bit, and you can actually see more of this session on her channel from HER perspective here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2JdqSt2bw0
OK with the plugs out of the way, onto the show!
Match 1: Wily Castle (Omega form)
Oh hey, this is canon kinda! Except...well, I think Min Min honestly is a tough match-up for Kazuya (and most of the cast if we're being frank) so by all accounts she SHOULD have won...but that wouldn't make for a good reveal trailer huh?! Looking this match over, it's really hard to decide who to focus on most of the time. Go after someone off-stage and you'll get hit by the OTHER person with either a stretchy dragon beam or a Devil Beam. I stayed alive far longer than I thought I would in the end. Just wish I clicked with Falcon more. But hey, I got some Falcon Punch KOs so it's all good!
Match 2: Lylat Cruise
Ugh, look at all of these filthy sword characters. Honestly though, I think this match shows just how diverse all the swordies can be. You got Ike as an absolute powerhouse, the Mii Swordfighter has a fair degree of customization, Shulk's constantly buffing himself to adapt to anything, and Hero has spell shenanigans aplenty! Anyone that scoffs at adding another sword character to the roster really is making such a surface-level complaint.
Match 3: Frigate Orphion
I missed this stage! Pity that's the only love Metroid Prime really gets though; this is from like...the first game's tutorial. You can't tell me there wouldn't have been some other cool areas from the series to use for stages. But honestly, it's hard to complain as a Metroid fan right now when Dread finally exists. Oh, there's more swords here I guess. And we get to see Robin deal with his better version in a sense. Isn't it a LITTLE odd both of them use Fire, Lightning and Wind spells with some kind of resource management? Hero goes way further with the concept sure but still...kinda nutty how similar the two are. But only ONE of us can Smash Attack in the air!
Match 4: Mishima Dojo
I have no idea why the last part of this session was so sword heavy. I mean, Nuctle seems to main Ike to a degree, and Maidens was making his way through DLC which does have a fair assortment of swords...Jo just loves to cosplay I guess. And then there's Fox! A character I have like...no idea how to properly use. It's odd; he's good clearly, but he's almost too fast for me to really control. I prefer slower characters since I oddly feel like I have more control of my movement if that makes any sense.
As for the fight...uh...no comment? I dunno why I even kept this one honestly. I guess since we end on Lloyd, or a rough facsimile? Maybe next time Lloyd! It would have been cool to have Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Tales characters in the same game but uh...clearly it was more important to make Street Fighter, Fatal Fury/KOF and Tekken meet and greet instead.
That'll do it for Smash content for now! Back to my NEW LOVE with more Guilty Gear Strive soonish, likely.
See you all when DoomSlayer totally ends out the Fighter's Pass.
