The PS1 sold around 102 million when it was all said and done, yet the PS2 is still widely regarded as the best-selling console of all time with well over 150 million. That's 50 million or so more sales than the PS1 had and with a more recently cultivated fan base.

Even if Sony totally phoned it in again, or even worse than they did with the PS1 Classic, the sheer amount of people out there who grew up with a PS2 would all but guarantee that the thing would sell well. If you thought the PS1 classic coasted on its name recognition, just wait and see what the PS2 could do if Sony were to choose that route.
