Shovel Knight has over 300 cheat codes, the most important of which will replace key nouns in the game with the word "butt", including "Shovel" and "Knight" so the game's hero becomes known as Butt Butt.

The wielding combatant Baz is actually a fantasy version of Zubaz, a ridiculous failed Street Fighter concept character that has been celebrated by Two Best Friends Play and has appeared in Divekick as well.

Funded by Kickstarter, Shovel Knight had several interesting reward tiers. Those that donated $1000 were given the studio title Director For A Day. Among their responsibilities were getting to design the bosses who wander the overworld map. These were the already mentioned Baz, Reize, Phantom Striker, Liquid Samurai, and the dreaded Mr. Hat.
