17The game is played with a steering wheel, two pedals and two nitro boost buttons. No manual transmission and no clutch pedal.
Integrated in the cabinet is a keypad allows the players to input bonus Codes to unlock cars, tracks and skins. A view change button allows for a dashboard view or a behind-the-vehicle view.
Boost is infinite even you exhaust meter, slowly fill up again by itself, crashing into enemies (better at max speed) is crucial for succeeding and win, even in normal racing modes.
Opponents have health bars, when you smash them or simply hit them you'll be rewarded with points, those will be added to your final score after the race is over.
But beware a your car has a health bar too and opponents can crash you and wreck you in no time.
Players have ten classic car types to race, from muscle cars and pick-up trucks to sports cars and even hearses.
These categories include: Coupe, Cruiser, Muscle, Old-Timer, Pickup, Saloon, Special, Sport, Truck, and Tuned.
The game has two game modes Challange and Tour. The first one is a single race game mode typical of any racing game, pick a course, a car and then race.
Tour mode is a championship mode divided in three different races, you need to at least place third to complete a race and move to next one, but what matters the most is how many points you have collected through the whole tour, obviously placing better in the race achieve a better score, the final leaderboard will determine who is the winner.
There are six stages for players to race through, including: Miami, Colorado, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Yokohama. On these stages, players can choose between four race modes:
Race Off - A no holds barred, wild racing event where it’s a fight to the finish line by any means necessary. Show your opponents who is the true king of the road by smashing them off it as you sprint for the checkered flag.
Demolition - A closed arena map where the aim is to take out opponents by smashing, bashing and shunting them to oblivion. Powered by Pivot Motion Technology, Showdown arcade brings demolition derby alive like never before.
Knockout - Push pedal to metal and drive it like you stole it as you knock out opponents from the top of the platform, and try to stay on top yourself. Use boost to deliver crunching T-Bone crashes or dash out the way of incoming hits.
Crossroads - Race on classic figure of eight circuits, where it’s full-on carnage in cars at the track’s intersection points.
The game is playable in multiplayer, the cabinets are linkable up to 4 players.
