One of the biggest Mario Bros. mysteries of all time is 'What's behind a Shy Guy's mask?' Now, thanks to data leaks from the Game Boy™ Advance games on Nintendo Switch Online, we finally have an answer. These ports of the games contain developer sprites that haven't been seen before, and while many of them are VERY interesting (I'm looking at you, Tall Toad) the biggest find is a version of a Shy Guy WITHOUT the iconic mask. This sprite originates from Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3.

And while we now know what's behind the mask, it's a little hard to understand. What are we looking at? That's where I, Lumpy Touch come in. Using my amazing pixel prowess, I upscaled the base sprite, and then did my vary best to interpret the face in 4 unique ways. I'll let you, the viewer, decide which is best! Since we're the FIRST people to see this face (thanks, Shesez!) WE can decide what the canonical face of a Shy Guy looks like! Choose wisely!
