5"Skvarka" is a Russian word in English orthography for "скварка" , translated to "squark". A squark is the opposite of a quark , so we are talking quantum physics. From his song titles and choice of band name, the maker of this tape Vlad Buben is apparently an avid reader and science fan. I like that. I liked this, it is the kind of non-harsh noise I like to have on while working or thinking. 60 minutes of it is a bit much, but lack of editing aside I'm a fan of this.
I don't know Vlad, my entire interaction with him was receiving this tape in 2001 with a letter saying I could release it however I want. 23 years later, I guess I'm doing that uploading it here. I believe it's in response to a call for submissions I put out in flyers and zines in later 1999, and unfortunately, by 2001 I was almost completely out of making, releasing, and reviewing music. Vlad has a few CD-r releases around 2002-2004 according to discogs, other than that I can't find much of anything about him. Vlad If you are out there, thanks for this, and while it's late, I'm happy to bring it to more listeners.
