Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 284. Hard Answers - Dwemer Museum
Karliah is convinced the journal she found on Gallus' body holds clues to Mercer's betrayal, but unfortunately it's encoded in a strange language. Apparently Enthir at the College was a good friend of Gallus, so we're off to see if he can help.
Enthir tells us the journal is written in the Falmer language, and the only person who could translate it is Calcelmo in Markarth. We can't just ask him to translate a sensitive Thieves Guild document himself, lest he call the guard on us, so we have to steal the materials we need so Enthir can translate it for us. Side note, but how awesome would it have been if as part of the Dawnguard DLC they altered this quest so you could also take the journal to Knight-Paladin Gelebor and have him read it for you? I doubt he would care much that it was related to the Thieves Guild.
Anyway, we're off to Markarth. We've already befriended Calcelmo in The Book of Love quest, so we easily persuade him to give us the key to his Dwemer Museum. Inside, the museum is a treasure trove of loot, and that's what we spend our remaining time doing. We clear the place out, despite multiple guards around, and by the end we're nearly at our weight limit, so we head back to Whiterun for a sort n' sell. We're just over the half hour mark at this point, but the next part of the quest is rather involved, so we're going to chop it in two and stop here for today. Next time we breech Calcelmo's Laboratory.
