In the wake of MXR aka MMOxReview’s videos being taken down by Mod Authors who are attempting to protect their intellectual property or stand up for certain morals, I figured I’d address the situation and respond Sisypheus to the mod author of Tinvaak-Talking with Dragons latest post regarding the state of the Skyrim Modding Community.
Being an author myself I can certainly attest to the Mod Authors having certain intellectual property rights that certain vocal members of the community would deny them in favor of Cathedral Modding, but you do have a legitimate copyright on things you own. But at the heart of that Copyright law that protects mod authors is also the legal doctrine of Fair Use. Fair use allows for Review and Satire to take place without express permission of the author. That’s where MXR comes in. We’ll discuss that as well as the Sky Market mod by Tarshana and many topics in between today.
