This is the World 5-1 Level from Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

This level is where the wind is introduced. The wind is the ONLY thing worth mentioning. To this day, I have no idea how the wind is supposed to work. You'd think that the wind would push you in the direction it blows, and so you will move faster if you move in the same direction as the wind. However, as you can see here, that doesn't seem to work that way. The wind doesn't seem to affect your momentum on the ground, it doesn't affect you at all if you are up high above the screen, and if you repeatedly stop and let the wind push you, it will push you at different rates. It doesn't even seem necessary. I'm pretty sure I can make all those jumps at top speed without any wind assistance. I've heard that the wind has multiple speeds and also changes directions, but I've never seen any evidence of that. It's all the same animation of leaves flying diagonally across the screen with overlapping fast and slow leaves simultaneously.

Also, my second death this level was caused by more momentum BS. I've made jumps exactly like that one exactly like that many times, so why didn't I have enough speed to make the jump? I think the game held my momentum back just to make me lose another life. Luckily there was a checkpoint that was past the wind section.
