유리 사카자키

용호의 권 시리즈의 등장인물. 료 사카자키의 여동생. 타쿠마 사카자키의 딸. 이름 표기는 가족과 마찬가지로 서양식이다. 최초 등장은 용호의 권 1에서 미스터 빅에게 납치되는 공주님 역으로 무술은 전혀 하지 못했다. 도트 화면이나 네오지오 일러스트 화집 등을 뒤져보면 볼 수 있는 당시의 관련 비주얼은 청순가련 미소녀 그 자체였으나 1탄으로부터 2년 후를 다룬 시점인 용호의 권 2에서는 호신술로 극한류 공수를 배워 플레이 가능한 캐릭터로 등장하는데 18세 이후인 이미지는 까불까불 왈가닥 주먹소녀 정도로만 인식되고 있다. 원래는 평범한 말투지만 KOF에 들어온뒤로 왠지 말끝마다 (-치)를 자주 붙인다.

용호의 권 2의 인트로에서 나오는 납치 되었을때의 유리. 당장 이 용호2 부터 유리의 이런 모습은 온데간데없이 사라진다. 료와의 대전 이벤트에서 동생의 급격한 변화에 머리를 싸매는 료의 모습이 나올 정도.

이후 쉽게 납치되었던 것에 부끄러워하고 자신을 구하려 애쓴 료와 로버트에게 미안한 것인지 2년동안 집중적으로 수련하고 패왕상후권을 구사할 정도로 엄청난 성장을 이루었다. 게다가 극한류의 사범대리로, 도장 내에서도 상당한 실력자로 평가받고 있다. 파리 하나 못 죽이던 여자가 단 2년 만에 잭 터너에게서 승리를 거둘 정도의 격투가로 변신했다. 아마 당대 제일고수였던 아버지로 물려받은 재질이 뒤늦게 개화한 것 같다. 보통 문하생들 앞에서는 쇄파, 뇌황권, 호황권 등 극한류 주요 초식들을 정석대로 잘 구사하지만, 본인이 시합 등을 나가게 되면 도장 내에서 쓰지 않는 갖가지 괴상한 공격들을 동원하는 것이 특징. 그래서 타쿠마와 료는 유리의 대회 출전을 아주 못마땅하게 생각한다. 96 팀 스토리에서 극한류의 위신을 떨어 뜨렸다며 노발대발하는 타쿠마의 모습이 그 이유. 괴상한 공격의 특징은 로버트의 격투 스타일인 극한류+자기식 어레인지와 같은 맥락이다. 본인은 XIII 이벤트 대사를 통해 "가라데 도장이 100개가 있다면 100개의 다양한 격투 방법이 있는 법이라고 반박한다

용호의 권 2에서는 모든 캐릭터가 그렇지만 필살기를 맞고 KO당하면 옷이 찢어지는 특성이 있었다. 그리고 퍼펙트 승을 거두면 도복 상의를 반쯤 벗...으려고 하다가 이쪽 시선을 의식하고 양팔로 가리는 서비스 승리 포즈가 나온다. 사실 벗으려고 한 건 아니고 도복 끈을 맬려고 했는데 제대로 맬 줄 몰라서 실수한 것이었지만. CVS에서는 도복 끈을 똑바로 매고 '앗싸!' 하는 승리 포즈가 추가되었으며 CVS2에서는 상대를 파이네스트 KO시켰을 시 상기의 승리 포즈가 나온다. KOF에서는 그냥 까불까불하기만 하지만.

XI에서 마린의 격투 방식을 비열하다고 놀려서 마린과 비정상적인 라이벌 기믹이 생겼지만...별 생각없이 한 소리였는지 XIII에서는 별 말이 없다.

정통 SNK 세계관 연표에 따른 캐릭터들 출생년도에 따르면 클락 스틸과 동갑이다. 용호의 권이 아랑전설보다 한세대 앞선 이야기니 용호의 권 캐릭터들이 전체적으로 나이가 높아지는 것.


Yuri Sakazaki

Yuri Sakazaki (ユリ・サカザキ or 坂崎 百合, Sakazaki Yuri) is a character introduced in the Art of Fighting series as a damsel in distress and eventually as a playable character. Since then, she has appeared in many SNK fighting games, alongside her older brother, Ryo Sakazaki. She is the first female practitioner of Kyokugenryu Karate. Her official nickname is Wild Flying Swallow.

In the Neo Geo Freak's 1997 Volume 8 character poll, she was voted as the tenth favourite character with a total of 944 votes. In the character popularity poll on Neo Geo Freak's website, she was voted as the nineteenth favorite character with a total of 726 votes.

Creation and design

Yuri was created to be a woman spoiled by her older brother Ryo Sakazaki. Although she was given a tragic past due to her mother's death and her father's disappearance, SNK gave her an upbeat character. For the character voices, they used all pro or semi-pro voice actors. Yuri and King were done by the same person. Once it was announced Yuri would be a playable character in Art of Fighting 2, the staff behind The King of Fighters '94 wanted her to be as part of the cast. She replaced the character Big Bear from King's team due to memory issues. Afterwards, the team added Mai Shiranui to the team and form the Women's Team. Yuri's designer said the character had some bosom animation but not as much as Mai; she spent much work on Yuri's calves. Additionally, the Art of Fighting staff wanted Yuri to appear in the game, thus, she was added to the Women Fighters Team as the leader.

In making Yuri for The King of Fighters XIII, director Kei Yamamoto stated Yuri wanted the character's moves to focus on kicks. Due to the skill required to perform some of her special attacks, Yamamoto feels Yuri's players to train themselves in order to use her properly. There was originally an attempt to give the character one of Robert Garcia's moves because of both of them handling their lower limbs, but was removed due to not fitting Yuri. Yuri's redesign gave the staff a good impression in how she her sprites changed, especially liking the universal lower body due to her combination of white gi and blue pants.

KOF: Maximum Impact marks the first time since Art of Fighting 2 that she has received a new outfit. Such outfit is composed of a green camo print shirt, short pants, dark green gloves and green shoes.[5] In KOF: Maximum Impact 2, some of her extra normal outfits make her look like fellow Kyokugen practitioners; color scheme B makes her look like Ryo (blond hair, orange gi and black tights), while scheme F resembles Robert Garcia's outfit from The King of Fighters '99 to 2002, which consists of brown hair, orange gi with black long-sleeved tights, and no headband

Personality

Yuri Sakazaki is a friendly young girl who always cares about her family and friends. She is a strong believer of innovation and trends, constantly finding ways to improve herself through change. She is often arguing with her father and Ryo over matters regarding her newfound sense of independence.

In the Art of Fighting series, it is heavily implied that she has a romantic interest in Robert after her kidnapping. As of Art of Fighting 3, she is confirmed to be in a relationship with Robert. Thought still present to a certain degree, this attraction and relationship is downplayed in the King of Fighters series, and is sometimes the humorous cause as to why Robert is suddenly being beaten up by Ryo and Takuma.
