This platformer is unique in that our hero must use a football; both as a main weapon and as a means get to all those difficult places; but is this game fun or just too huge for any lasting satisfaction?

As the last few weeks have been quite busy I had to put my game guides on the back burner for a while, and yes you guessed it, the C64 review of Dizzy ended up taking up all my time this week with nothing spare for Soccer Kid. As you know, I'm not shy when it comes to producing and voicing-over reviews which go on for over an hour. I like to show the viewer as much of the games as possible as sometimes the later levels are new to the casual player, but this often means the middle and latter half of the long reviews can get a bit boring without things which pop up and entertain. I was not at all happy with the Dizzy voice-over, so all the time and captions went into that, and only a few hours were spent adding a few bits to this as well. The first 6 levels suffer from rather poor narration (ahem), but from Venice all the way to America I found the voice was perky enough to hold the review.

I usually like to play the reviews at the same speed as the player would actually play the game, but this game is so large I ended up missing a few cards and just running for the exit. When I played this in the Lemon/EAB competition I reached China level 6 by taking it very slowly, but in my rush to speed through this review I lost a lot of lives through silly sudden deaths, and this eventually meant using savestates (which I hate). I never saw the USA levels before (and that was a long way from the savestate I made to train the Russian gymnast boss before the compo, but never used) but I had to use a savestate to get to those Wild West levels, so no high scores were saved and it felt like a hard fought yet hollow victory.

This is the final Pete Harrap/Shaun Hollingworth game I wanted to review and it happened to coincide with the Blackpool show, so the final tag was put in to plug the show ahead of the event next week. I plan to attend the Blackpool Expo and take some footage to be released over the length of a few coming weeks, so this means I can keep the Amiga channel running with something and I don't have to abandon it while I get back in front with my videos. As each video takes two weeks in general (some c64 reviews were made in one day!) I'm going to need this break. So this will be the last video review for a while. There are maybe 15 review still to go this season and then I'm going to take another break and then perhaps open the floodgates for 'reviews on demand'. We'll see.

Needless to say, this video was ignored up to almost the deadline as I was mostly happy with the voice although there are still plenty of contradictions in there and a few mistakes; like I say the energy token in Russia "Gives us Two Hearts" but I had upgraded to x3 hearts by then, so it puts me up to three. I also say the graphics are 'Hand Drawn' - which is nonsense. I could have fixed these verbal errors but I ran out of time, and I didn't want to push the deadline back a week as there would be no point advertising the Blackpool event on the day of the event. Instead I spent the time adding box cover art for the 'history bits', things like the Krisalis logo, and the usual arrows and a few captions. At any rate, sorry if the first bit is boring. My favourite levels are Venice, Bullet Train and Wild West 1.
