Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype for PlayStation 3
Hello and welcome to another PlayStation 3 exclusive sneak peek. This time I take a look at an awesome "bullet hell" type shooter on the PSN, Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype.
3104 A.D.The virus wars had ended. After the Soldner-X prototype had returned to earth, peace was restored to the galaxy, for awhile. But rebuilding civilization took its toll. Splinter factions formed, opposing the planetary union. The most dangerous of these were the D'aarg, a technologically superior race determined to take advantage of the situation by conquering defenseless systems.
Knowing that the regular E.D.F. stood no chance against the new enemy, an enhanced generation of star fighters was built in GOTA IV. Leading scientists had successfully analyzed the life form found on the original Soldner Xs hull, and used the insight to design new weapon systems.
3120 A.D. It came to our knowledge that Conceyta technology had been secretly stolen by the D'aarg. The galaxy continued the downward spiral into chaos. More and more corrupted systems declared war on the Union.
3123 A.D. The president of the planetary union proclaimed a new decree, giving the E.D.F. full authority to free the galaxy of the new threat.
3124 A.D. The newly formed Soldner X defense force was called on to launch a liberation attack on the rebellious systems, to free them from D'aarg rule, and destroy the D'aarg faction.
20 years after the virus wars, a new conflict is nearing its climax. The Soldner X legend rises, once again!
The graphics are simply outstanding for this shooter. Colorful backgrounds, and awesome special effects from explosions and flying debris, are just awesome looking. The ships all have a unique look and weapon pattern, and the weapons themselves look bitchin'! Really surprising for a game that's $12.99, it looks like a game that was $49.95. The developers really outdid themselves on this game! It looks tits up!
The music in Soldner X2 is really incredible as well. Composed by none other than the extremely talented Rafael Dyll, the music composer for the first Soldner X and Last Hope on Neo-Geo, brings us more awesome synthesized music tracks that fit perfectly with the game. Each stage, and end boss, have energetic music that keep you in the mood to continue playing for hours. This might be, perhaps, his best effort yet. The music is simply outstanding!
The sound effects are very well done for a shooter, with plenty of variety in sounds for explosions, and the weapons sound pretty damn good as well. There could be a bit more, but, there is plenty to be heard in this shooter. They did a great job in the sound effects dept.
The controls are pretty good IMO, with just the center of the ship being the hit box. The gameplay is focused on points rather than stage completion, so in that regard the game is easy to play and beat, but hard to master. This Soldner X is a bullet hell shooter, and as such is mainly all about scoring systems. Its simple to maneuver around the screen, and dodging the bullets can be easy, when memorized correctly. In a nutshell, the controls are pretty much spot on, and easy to learn.
Bottom Line: Anyone with a PlayStation 3, and likes shooters, should pick this game up immediately! It has great replay value, has great graphics and sound, and is just all around fun to play! For the asking price of just $12.99, this game is an absolute, 100% MUST BUY! Shooter fans rejoice! Soldner X2: Final Prototype is here!
Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype is available only on the Sony PlayStation 3 Computer Entertainment System.
This game is in 720p native and plays in 1080p, has Dual Shock 3 Rumble, Trophy Support, and Uncompressed LPCM Sound.
