Most of us don't want to remember this game that was supposed to be a true Sonic 4 experience and continuation from Sonic 3 & Knuckles because it suffered many flaws such as broken physics, 3D Sonic model with green eyes (which didn't explain the time gap from 1994), pointless scoring system, rehashing old zones in the new 2D.3D playing field, being episodic and the music suffering from simply no bass guitar synths what so ever.

To be fair, Sonic Mania doesn't deserve the title of Sonic 4 either.

But despite all of Sonic 4's flaws, the soundtrack at least does it's best to grab your attention. The drumkit is taken from Sonic 1 and 2 but I can never understand why there is a maracca shaker instrument taking the place of a hi-hat cymbal? Can anyone explain this? Why didn't Jun Senoue simply use a brass hi-hat cymbal to accompany the bass and snare drums? Everytime I hear that maracca thing I think of Sonic CD's Tidal Tempest Past track which had the exact same sound. It's clearly not a periodic noise type hi-hat sound like what we heard on the Mega Drive/Genesis, it's clearly just that! A maracca. It's a strange percussion set-up but one that I have learned to accept over time.

Although on a short loop, some of these tracks will catch your attention, for me it's Splash Hill 3 for it's freedom running sound, Mad Gear 3 for those Sonic 2 small toms and Sylvania Castle 3's Guile like theme. I tried to fit as much as I could on a standard audio 80 minute recordable CD-R disc but some tracks had to be omitted such as the Special Stages themes and the Boss and Staff Roll Medleys, but what is on here is pretty much what you'd get if the soundtrack was released officially as a one disc edition and recording each track at one minute and thirty seconds each like say (Sonic CD) basically makes it not even worth listening too.
