Sonic Adventure DX (PC) - any% speedrun in 13:07
15silly little category which I had in my head for quite a while already but never bothered doing until now. The idea is that usually, speedruns of this game don't use the standard widely used speedrun category terms of any%/100%/low%/etc because it doesn't really apply with how this game is structured and how it tracks progress. "Any%" usually means to start a new file and reach the credits by any means neccesarry with any amount of completion. The way I interpret this in application to this game is that you would start a new save file and try to reach whichever credits are the fastest to reach. While it is obvious that Big's is the shortest story, you also have to take into account that you need to unlock him first, which is what makes this different to the standard speedrun categories of this game, that just use a pre-made save file that has the story unlocked.
During my stream I was told that SQeefy already did runs of this category nearly 2 years ago, so I wasn't the first person to have thought of this, but I DID think of it eventually. Dragvrallas pointed me to his run in order to show me a faster way to unlock Big than what I had done previously. At first, I thought you had to talk to Big on the hubworld, and then when you unlocked the next character through story progression (which would be Knuckles), it would unlock Big as well. But turns out that doing any game progression after talking to Big unlocks him, which means the fastest way to do that is to collect a hub world emblem. So my first runs played Tails' story until after Chaos 4, which resulted in a 17 to 18 minute time, until I learned that I can skip Icecap and Chaos 4 entirely, saving me a whole 4 minutes and a whole lot of headaches, because with Icecap out of the picture, the hardest split was gone. So thank you SQueefy and Drag for saving me all this extra time and trouble
