Sonic Adventure DX Randomizer - Random Seed speedrun in 6:38
1The SADX Randomizer is a mod by sora_yx that replaces the stages of the game's story and replaces them with random other stages, with random characters, and possibly even one of a few random objectives, like Lost Chao or 100 ring missions from Sonic Adventure 2. He made a lot of additional modifications to ensure every combination is finishable and (at least somewhat fun), such as adding in helpful shortcut rockets, springs, or increasing the ground speed of slow characters. Over the last week I got a little obsessed with grinding this, as I'm generally quite keen on short, RNG heavy speedruns, and the chaotic nature of it made it a nice change from the regular Knuckles story grind. Obviously to get a time this low you have to get really damn lucky, as any random draw can take anything between 10 seconds to 3 minutes, but it was strangely addicting throwing attempt after attempt at this. This run that I ended up getting had a quite mediocre early game but a super strong endgame, that ended up as a massive PB and the current record by a few seconds. In my excited disbelief, I unfortunately ended the timer a tad early, but based on for how many frames the level timer still keeps on ticking after I initially stopped LiveSplit, this should retime to 6:38.29 ingame time and 6:36.30 real time, by my calculations.
Looking back at this run, I'm glad that this ended up being a succesful attempt, as it was not only fast, but also gave me combinations that showed off a couple of cool tricks that Randomizer speedrunning has to offer, so that was a pretty cool representation of what it's like to play this. I made a couple of mistakes here and there but always recovered pretty quickly
