Sonic and tails chase after Egg man after their brief exchange with Knuckles leading to the loss of their two Chaos emeralds. After the crash landing, the Tornado Sonic goes to look for Tails but runs into Amy Rose who he hadn't seen since he saved her on Little Planet during the events of Sonic CD. Having been forced into being an escort for Amy and her bird pal they realize that one of Eggman's robots is following them. Sonic turns to face the robot but is too slow to notice Amy has run off to twinkle park. After leaving Twinkle Park Sonic sees the robot has captured Amy and when he tries to intercept them at Mystic Ruins they end up being transported onto the Egg Carrier. Sonic gives chase on foot and meets up with Tails as they race toward the flying battleship. After sneaking in through the Sky Deck they rescue Amy and battle E 102 Gamma before Amy stops Sonic from dealing the final blow. Sonic tells his friends to escape the Egg carrier while he takes the fight straight to Dr. Robotnik
