Here it is: Palmtree Panic. It's equivalent to Green Hill (S1) and Emerald Hill (S2): you learn the basics like control the character, use some moves, jump and the like.

There, you must time-travel to the past in order to make a good future. Destroying Metal Sonic's holograms free the animals and allows them to reproduce later. Destroying the robot capsule makes sure they don't wreck the place in the future.

The special stage itself is pretty simple: control Sonic and destroy the UFOs. Be careful with the water, though, as she will slows you and make you run out of time. After you destroy the UFOs, you get a time stone. They're needed to acheive the good ending. Sadly, no super form in this game
