Sonic Frontiers | Getting Chaos Emerald
This walkthrough will cover the main story path weaving through Chaos Island, including where to find all seven Chaos Emeralds, Sonic's ally and the area's titan. After defeating the Wyvern at the tail-end of Ares Island, Sonic will once again fly off in search of his friends. His journey will lead him to Chaos Island, which is an ash-covered realm divided by streams of lava and large chasms.
Much like last time, the game drops you into this locale and lets you roam freely, meaning we'll be able to access any of the 7 stages located on the island at our own pace. You can jump between each of the stages using the table below:
Zone 3-1 Zone 3-2 Zone 3-3 Zone 3-4 Zone 3-5 Zone 3-6 Zone 3-7
Gears Needed: 1 Gears Needed: 1 Gears Needed: 1 Gears Needed: 1 Gears Needed: 1 Gears Needed: 2 Gears Needed: 0
There's also a ton to do on Chaos Island, so if you're looking for something specific, jump to a specific section of the guide below:
Freeing Tails
Much as before, we'll begin this chapter on a quest to free one of Sonic's lost pals: Tails. We can find the flying fox at the southmost point of Chaos Island. His location is marked on the map below.

Collect some memory tokens and use them to free Tails. You'll cue a cutscene where the pair reunite and Tails vows to help Sonic find the Chaos Emeralds. With him free, let's gather up some vault keys in the stages listed above.

Collecting Portal Gears
To enter the zones, we'll once again need portal gears, so let's quickly cover each of the Guardian fights on Chaos Island and how to beat them.
Shinobi
The Shinobi is essentially a clone of the ninja guardian we faced on Kronos Island. The main difference is that it can spawn a clone of itself that will leap out and attempt to attack Sonic.

You'll want to avoid this clone and move in close to the real Shinobi to get some hits in. Much like with the Ninja fight, your best call here is to use parry. Wait for the actual Shinobi to attack and assume parry position by holding L1 + R1 / LB + RB. then use TRIANGLE + CIRCLE / Y + B to hit it with a spin dash.
You'll knock off a good portion of its health bar and leave it stunned, allowing you to get plenty of additional hits in.
Fortress
A giant flying foe, the Fortress can initially be a confusing enemy to bring down. It'll soar through the air and shoot lasers at you, with no immediate weak spots to exploit.

To defeat it, follow the Fortress until it begins to fly away from land. Grind rails will emerge from its tail, providing Sonic with a path leading to a weak spot. Jump on the grind rails and switch between them to avoid projectiles coming from the fortress.

If you hit a blue rail, you'll go faster, allowing you to reach the Fortress quicker. When you reach the beast, homing attack it when prompted to stun it, allowing you to pack in damage.

At about half health, it'll fly away again, reinitiating the chase. Catch up to it, once again avoiding projectiles and jumping over newly added gaps, then homing attack it again to win the fight.
