If you die on a stage after the score tally, it'll actually take you to the next stage; it's the same reason cutscene skips work. The next stage after MS1ST is actually MS1K though, which... does not exactly work out too well.

The only way that I know of to die here is to use debug. This does not work on the latest version of Mania due to a REALLY stupid change where using debug at any point gets rid of the normal end of level progression (it just fades out after the score tally), I have no idea why they did that. :\

What happens depends on whether you're playing as Sonic [+ Tails] or Tails. For Sonic... the game just gives up. As Tails the only thing you can do is move the camera; holding B (on Switch) makes it move faster.

(If you want to actually play the stage with Sonic or Tails, just place an end level sign post in MS1 with debug.)
