Sonic Unleashed PSN Demo (Daytime)
This is one of the very special occasions that I try to record a PS3 game, based on my knowledge of recording a Wii game.
I'm just adding this for clarity. Try to compare this gameplay to my gameplay of Sonic Generations' Modern Sonic.
So far, between the PS3 demos:
1: Sonic Unleashed has Jason Anthony Griffith as Sonic's English voice. Sonic Generations has Roger Craig Smith as his current English voice.
It would be cool if Generations allowed you to switch between those 2 voices and Ryan Drummond's, so everyone can be happy, but I doubt it.
2: The Homing Attack is unleashed (no pun intended) with the Square button in "Unleashed", but the "X" button in "Generations". This means that Sonic can air boost in "Generations" like he could in "Colors" and "PS2/Wii Unleashed".
3: While I haven't shown drifting/sliding in either video, "Unleashed" has Sonic drifted with his feet, while "Generations" has him Spin Dash, instead.
4: Chip is Sonic's guide in "Unleashed". Omochao returns as the guide for BOTH Sonics in "Generations". You can actually turn Omochao off in that game, but you can't turn Chip off in this game.
5: Air Tricks in "Unleashed" are done by inputting a specific combination of buttons. If you succeed, it will throw Sonic into an alternate, usually easier route. In "Generations", Sonic can pull of a string of Air Tricks by pressing the D-Pad of tilting the Left Analog Stick Up, Down, Left, or Right. He can finish his air combo with L1 + R1.
All of this doesn't take him on different route, but it can extend his Boost Meter beyond its regular limit. I assume his regular limit can be permanently extended through upgrades.
6: Both, the PS360 version of Unleashed, and the PS360/PC version of Generations use the "Hedgehog Engine", a very powerful graphics engine that's responsible for all of the amazing visuals you see in both games.
This is the reason why "Unleashed" is different on PS2/Wii, and part of why "Generations" doesn't have a Wii version at all.
-----------
I'm sure there are other details. I just think these are a bit more noticeable.
The Werehog gameplay is very controversial, being called stuff like "God of War Lite". Most likely, if it weren't for that part of the game, Sonic Unleashed would be seen as a better game in many fans and critics' eyes.
And with the comparisons that I made, can you guess when "Generations" began its development?
Now watch my Modern Sonic demo to see these similarities and differences for yourself:
