I've got a particular interest in weird audio/music formats. Okay, DAT isn't "weird" but it is obscure when it comes to consumer audio.

I've got a Tascam DA-20 (working!), three Sony PCM-2700As (need repair) and these two portable recorders - a Sony TCD-D3 and a TCD-D7.

One common fault it seems, due to their motorised eject, is the motorised eject ... plastic gears ... hmmm.

Anyway, when/if I get this Grundy NewBrain finally working, maybe I can have a look at these units and try to get them working again - DAT uses a helical scanning like in video tape recorders so the insides of these portable machines are truly a wonder of Japanese engineering!

Might need spare parts from a donor machine ... luckily there seems to be no shortage of these on Yahoo Auctions in Japan (accessed via buyee.jp).
