"Soothsayer" (cinematic intro-sans voice over) - a retro-style Hexen II-themed FPS project.
Per the new trend of retro-throwback First-Person games, I'm currently working on a Hexen II-clone, involving quake-style use of the Unity Engine, and planned for release via my business-related alias, "Tadpole Interactive".
"Soothsayer" is planned to feature fantasy-themed settings, weaponry, and enemies, with a slight emphasis on puzzle-solving.
This brief low-res cinematic intro is designed to emulate a similar sequence in Raven Software's 1997 entry.
At this point, I still plan to incorporate a voice-over narration, in which the protagonist (the unnamed soothsayer) relates the events at hand. At this point, the evil deity Zylastra has repeatedly embarked upon an Eidelon-style invasion of the fantasy homeworld, having previously been outwitted and destroyed by the human inhabitants, only to reincarnate in the bosom of the cosmos to try again, growing ever bolder in the process. The depicted events cover attempts by the necromancers of Innioth to stay the process of Zylastra's reincarnation by invoking incantations to imprison the deity's spirit within her dormant body. Unfortunately, this attempt has backfired, as her telepathic powers have begun to corrupt the minds of various monarchs within the realm, subjecting them to do her bidding in preparation for generating a vessel from which she can embark upon a new invasion. Unlike the clueless humans around her, the soothsayer, in the midst of her meditation, can foresee the patterns at hand, and unless she acts soon, humanity will be doomed.
In attempting to emulate Raven's creative process as closely as possible without copying off of their actual design and components, the piece which I've composed is intended to replicate the compositional style of Raven's Kevin Schilder, again without stealing the actual notations, themselves.
