Soul Blade made its debut as an arcade game in 1995 before finding its way onto the Sony PlayStation in 1996. The game is part of the Soulcalibur series and serves as the precursor to its more famous successor. Just like the latter, Soul Blade boasts a diverse roster of characters, each wielding a unique weapon and fighting style.
The gameplay centers around intense one-on-one battles set in various captivating 3D environments, allowing players to execute a plethora of moves, including special attacks and combos.
As a devoted Soulcalibur enthusiast, I've always held a special appreciation for its predecessor - which didn't happen the initial Street Fighter installment, for example - praising it for its captivating gameplay, impressive graphics, and well-crafted character designs.
Notably, at a time when weapon-focused fighting games were uncommon, Soul Blade laid the groundwork for the Soulcalibur series, which has since evolved into a prominent and esteemed franchise in the world of fighting games.
True to tradition, I'm starting my journey with the game on the easiest difficulty level to shake off any rust. However, be warned – the game's ease gives way to a formidable challenge upon encountering Cervantes. In my personal opinion, he stands as one of the toughest bosses, ready to give players a hard time regardless of the chosen difficulty level.
