Let's be upfront about it: Space Jam is not a stellar game, and I believe most of us can concur on that. However, in my humble opinion, both gamers and reviewers of its time were a tad too critical, especially when holding it up against the giant benchmark of NBA Jam.
In my view, the bias against Space Jam stemmed from the expectation of a conventional basketball video game or, conversely, a Looney Tunes masterpiece. Personally, I think the best way to approach and enjoy it is to accept it for what it is: a tie-in game from the movie of the same name, designed to provide a comical and amusing parody (not meant negatively) of other basketball games.
Sure, it's easy, lacking a formidable challenge even on the Hard difficulty. Yes, it's straightforward, so don't anticipate sophisticated defensive tactics or complex offensive strategies from your opponents. However, if you're seeking a no-frills basketball game with your beloved Looney Tunes characters, Space Jam can genuinely offer some hours of fun.
I won't deny that the Intergalactic Tournament, especially after figuring out how to beat the Monstars quickly (which, truthfully, doesn't take much), can get monotonous. Yet, the main game, despite its less enjoyable mini-games, remains engaging.
A word of advice: If you're a big fan of Michael Jordan, maybe avoid using him to preserve the enjoyment; he's in a league of his own (just like he is in real life), and can somewhat overpower the fun. Instead, opt for the Monstars for a more competitive yet enjoyable playthrough.
