Satan's Hollow Longplay (Arcade Game)
- Satan's Hollow Longplay (Arcade Game) -
A classic early 80s shooter arcade release from Bally Midway. In the game, players control a wizard who must build a bridge over a river of fire while fending off various demonic enemies. The primary objective is to defeat Satan, who appears as the final boss. You can use their magic wand to shoot at enemies and can also acquire power-ups like shields and double shots.
Despite its unconventional theme blending fantasy and horror, the game has always appealed to me due to its unique gameplay mechanics. While it enjoyed popularity at my local arcade in its heyday, concerns, which I share, lingered about its brevity - you could complete a loop in less than 40 seconds - and the resulting repetitive nature, exacerbated by the rapid escalation of difficulty.
There was a running joke that, gameplay-wise, it resembled an Atari 2600 game, a legendary console that was also notorious for short and repetitive titles. Nevertheless, the Bally Midway's release presents a brief yet engaging challenge, where quick thinking is essential to outsmarting foes, making the experience remarkably rewarding.
